NIFT 2017 Eligibility Criteria

Since NIFT 2017 is an entrance exam for admission to various undergraduate and postgraduate programs NIFT colleges offer, you must ensure that you are eligible to study these programs before registering for NIFT 2017 exam. The eligibility criteria for various NIFT programs are listed:

Bachelors Programs

Students applying for the Bachelors programs offered at NIFT must not be more than 23 years old as of 1st of October, 2017. This eligibility criterion is relaxed for 5 years for Scheduled Castes/ Scheduled Tribe/ Differently Abled Person (PHP). Students applying to the bachelors courses must have any one of the following qualifications:

B.Des.



  • The +2 level examinations in the 10+2 pattern of examination of any recognized Central/State Board of Secondary Examination, such as CBSE / State Board New Delhi, and CISCE, New Delhi.
  • General Certificate Education (GCE) Examination (London/Cambridge/Sri-Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level/ International Baccalaureate (IB).
  • Any Public School/Board/University Examination in India or in Foreign countries recognized by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to 10+2 system.
  • A pass grade in the Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Open School with a minimum of five subjects.
  • 3 or 4-years diploma recognized by AICTE or a State Board of Technical Education.

B.F.Tech.

  • The +2 level examinations in the 10+2 pattern of examination of any recognized Central/State Board of Secondary Examination, such as CBSE / State Board New Delhi, and CISCE, New Delhi with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
  • General Certificate Education (GCE) Examination (London/Cambridge/Sri-Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level/ International Baccalaureate (IB) with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
  • Any Public School/Board/University Examination in India or in Foreign countries recognized by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to 10+2 system with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics
  • A pass grade in the Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Open School with a minimum of five subjects with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics
  • 3 or 4-years diploma in any branch of engineering recognized by AICTE or a State Board of Technical Education.

Masters Programs

There is no age limit for applying to Master's programs. However, all applicants must meet the either of the following criteria to be eligible for admission to the programs:

Design (M.Des.)

  • Undergraduate Degree from any Institute / University recognized by law in India
    or
  • Diploma in UG Design from NIFT/ NID only
    or
  • Undergraduate Diploma of minimum three years duration from NIFT / NID.

Management (M.F.M.)

  • Undergraduate Degree from any Institute / University recognized by law in India.
    or
  • Undergraduate Diploma of minimum three years duration from NIFT / NID.

Technology (M.F.Tech.)

  • B.F.Tech. from NIFT
  • B.E / B.Tech from any Institute / University recognized by law in India.
