NITC Fellowships

General

Nearly 25% of the undergraduate students receive scholarships. The Institute awards merit scholarships to students of merit and of poor means. Candidates from Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe categories with 50% marks are eligible for stipend.

Merit cum Means/ Merit Scholarships


Those who have passed the qualifying examination in First Class or with 60% marks are eligible to apply for the scholarship provided the annual income of the parents does not exceed Rs.25000/-. Eligible students will have to apply for the Scholarship in the prescribed form. If required, they will be asked to appear for a scholarship examination in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and English. Merit will be decided on the basis of the performance in the scholarship examination as well as on the result of the qualifying examination.

The merit cum means scholarship is tenable for 12 months in an year, the value of the scholarship being Rs.125/- p.m. (subject to revision). The scholarship is renewable year after year for the entire programme according to the rules in force. There is no exemption from payment of tuition fees for the awardees of merit cum means scholarship.

Merit scholarship will be awarded every year. A nominal prize of Rs.100/- and a certificate of merit is awarded in lieu of scholarship to eligible students, the annual income of whose parents exceeds Rs.25000/-. In these cases also, there is no exemption from payment of tuition fees.

Educational Concessions

Students from Kerala are eligible for educational concessions from the SC/ST Department provided their annual family income is upto Rs.42000/-*

Application for educational concessions in the prescribed form together with the necessary Income Certificate and Community Certificate should be submitted to the Director within 15 days from the date of admission for onward transmission to the sanctioning authority.

Silver Jubilee Endowment Trust Scholarships

The Silver Jubilee Endowment Trust of the Institute, a registered body with the Director as Chairman and other ex-officio and nominated members as Trustees, currently awards 23 scholarships of Rs.750 TO Rs.1000/- each per month to the poor and deserving students of the Institute. In addition to these, following scholarships are also available.

Prof. A .O. Kunjipaulo Memorial Scholarship of Rs. 700/- per month for a pre-final year student,

‘Class of 1992 Computer Engineering Alumni’ Scholarship

‘Singapore RECCAA’ Scholarship of Rs.600/- each per month

‘RECCAA – USA Endowment’ Scholarship are also available. The amount and the number of these scholarships are likely to be revised. A few other sponsored scholarships are also likely to be available this year.

Other Scholarships and Financial Aids

There are about 40 categories of financial schemes available to students of this Institute.
The Parent Teacher Association (PTA) provides assistance of Rs. 1000/- per month to five students per year.

PTA awards the following prizes

A cash prize of Rs. 500/- along with a merit certificate to student securing the highest marks in the Final Examinations of each semester in all branches.

A cash prize of Rs.500/- to the student securing the highest marks in the Ist and IInd Semester Examinations put together among all the branches.

A cash prizes of Rs. 500/- each for students with outstanding achievements in National Level Sports/Cultural Competitions.

The Institute Hostels provides financial assistance to twelve students per year @ Rs.600/- per month.

In addition to the above, National Loan Scholarship of Govt. of India, Merit Scholarship for children of school teachers, financial aid offered from the Poor Student Aid Fund of the Institute and the like are offered to deserving candidates.

The Institute also provides opportunities to students to ‘earn while they learn’ through part time work in the Institute Library, Hostels, Vehicles section etc.

Assistantships

Financial assistance to the PhD student is available in the form of teaching and research assistantships. To avail this, student has to carry out the assigned duties.
M.Tech. students avail a monthly stipend of Rs.5,000/- for 8 hours of work per week.
Ph.D. students the corresponding financial assistance is Rs. 6,000/- for Engineering and Rs.5,000/- for Sciences for the first two years and there after it is raised to Rs.6,400/- and Rs.5,600/-, respectively, for another two years. These assistantships are awarded on a semester-to- semester basis on satisfactory academic performance and discharge of assigned duties.
