CCRT Scholarship - Cultural Talent Search Scholarship

ministry of culture

In an effort to nurture and develop talent in young children in different cultural fields like music, drama, dance, painting, sculpture, art and crafts, the central government has set up the Cultural Talent Search Scholarship Scheme. The programme is run by the Centre for Cultural Resources and Training (CCRT), under the Union ministry of culture, and supports a large number of art forms.

Programme/Scholarship

A total of 620 scholarships are awarded to candidates in different art forms every year. Out of this, a hundred are reserved for those representing tribal culture, 125 for those performing traditional and dying forms of visual or performing arts, and 25 for those who are differently abled.

The scholarship is awarded for a period of two years and is conditionally extendable every two years until the time the child reaches the first degree stage of education or until he or she reaches the age of 20.

The grant continues even if a student discontinues education after the secondary level and yet continues his pursuit of cultural goals for which he was awarded the grant in first place. The candidate should continue to pursue his training without taking up employment and on a fulltime basis.

A sum of Rs.3,600 per annum is awarded to each selected candidate. Additionally, Rs.400 per month is awarded in case of location shifting for the purpose of specialized training. With the training fees included, the cap for the scholarship per student per year is Rs.9000.

The date of start of the scholarship can be decided either by the Centre or based on the time the training starts at an institution or under a guru. A half yearly or yearly report is supposed to be sent by the guru or institution under which the candidate is taking her training.
