Hornby Scholarship To Study In UK
The Hornby Scholarship is a yearly scholarship provided by the British Council to teachers of English language for a one year M.A. level study in the United Kingdom. The scholarship focuses on supporting key English language specialists, such as senior teachers, teacher-trainers, inspectors and material writers by enabling them to study the English language and teaching theory and practice for an academic year in the UK. Graduates are then encouraged to use this knowledge to advance the teaching of English in their home countries.
The Hornby Scholarship
The Hornby scholarship provides English language specialists the opportunity to study a one year Master's program in an English Language Teaching (ELT) related subject at a university in the United Kingdom.
This year, the British council is looking to for two candidates to participate in the MA programme. The candidates will be placed in one of these institutes - University of Lancaster, Leeds, University College Plymouth, St Mark and St John (Marjon) or University of Warwick.
The acceptance of applications is usually undertaken at the beginning of each year.
Last date to submit applications: 29 February, 2016
Commencement of M.A. course in UK: October 2016
In order to apply for the Hornby Scholarship candidates should:
- Have successfully completed an undergraduate degree course equivalent to a Bachelors Degree in the UK (certification must be provided as part of each candidate's application).
- Have at least 5 years' hands-on and direct experience as an English language teacher/teacher trainer (as opposed to experience only in a management role, such as co-ordinating policy or running a school).
- Have been involved in some sort of developmental work as trainers or managers.
- Have attained an overall minimum Band score 6.5 on the International English Language Testing Service (IELTS), with no less than 6 in any of the categories.
Only applications for full time UK based ELT Diploma or Masters courses are eligible for Hornby Trust funding.
The application procedure for the Hornby Scholarship involves submission of an application form which contains all the necessary details required to successfully apply for the scholarship. The details might change as per the discretion of the Trust and so particulars are announced before the commencement of acceptance of application forms each year.
