General Requirements and Value of Scholarships
Indian national residing in India. The applications will normally be accepted from those candidates who have graduated first Master's degree as per requirement within the last ten years as on October of the in-take year. Scholarships cover tourist-class air passage (both ways) fee, adequate maintenance and other allowance.
Subject
Medicine (UK)
Cancer Research (including Cancer epidemiology); Cardiology, Gynecology, Medicine and Dentistry. Scholarships are assigned for project oriented training in higher techniques and methodology and are not for generalised training/studies leading to a degree or diploma.
Engineering & Technology
Electronics; Environmental Studies; Remote Sensing Technology; Communication Engineering; Bio-Technology/Biochemical Engineering; Robotics.
Science (Pure & Applied)
Mathematics; Molecular Biology; Physics and Chemistry (including Pharmaceutical/Medicinal Chemistry).
Agriculture & Allied Fields
Animal Husbandry; Agronomy and Forestry.
Humanities & Social Sciences
History; sociology; Management Studies; Fine Art; (including Western Painting, Art History, Graphic Design and Sculpture); Economics, Philosophy, Psychology, Computer Application, Law and English.
Scholarship Criterion
The Candidates must have completed tertiary education in English Medium.
- For Master' Degree: One must have completed Bachelor's Degree in one of the above indicated subject fields securing 55% or above marks in Humanities and Social Science group and 60% or above marks in Medicine, Engineering & Technology, Science and Agriculture group. Candidate should give one page academic justification for pursuing Master Degree course in U.K.
- For Ph.D : One must have completed Master's Degree in one of the subject fields indicated above securing 55% marks in Humanities and Social Science group and 60% or above marks in Medicine, Engineering and Technology, Science and Agriculture group with two years teaching/research or practical experience after obtaining Post-graduated degree relating to the opted field of study.
The Confederation of British Industry (CBI), London offers scholarships to Indian nationals residing in India and working in Public Sector Undertakings/ Organisations/ Firms, for undergraduate study in the following fields:
(1) Energy and Environment Management.
(2) Power System Engineering including Generation, Transmission and Distribution practices. These scholarships are for practical work experience attachments and not for advanced training as such; scholars are expected to work productively for the host company at graduate engineering level.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Age - Below 33 yrs
- Relaxation - 2 years in age limit for SC/ST
- Academic -
- BE (Civil/Electrical/ Mechanical) with 60% marks
- Uniformly good academic record
The candidates should be sponsored by the employers and are expected to return to their job on completion of their training in UK and undertake to serve their employer for 3 yrs. Preference to candidates from Public Sector Undertakings, Bureau of Public Enterprises, FICCI and industries which have collaboration with industries in UK

- be working in Civil/ Electrical/Mechanical Engineering industries especially those who have collaborative agreement with UK Firms

- have adequate knowledge of India and UK
- stay consecutively for 2 yrs in India after return
- be sponsored by the employer
- return to the parent institution on completion of training
- undertake to serve the employer for 3 years
Scholarship details -
- Number of Scholarships – 5
- Duration - 4-12 Months
- Value - £7,392.00 per annum (£616.00 per month). Free from U.K. Govt. Income Tax and other statutory deductions.
- Passage Cost -
- Onward journey to be borne by the candidate/employer
- Return journey is borne by CBI if the training is for a minimum of 6 months
Application Procedure - Application in the prescribed format along with the necessary documents should be submitted. Employed candidates should apply through the proper channel.
