Merit Cum Means Scholarship 2016-17

Scholarships

20,000 Merit-cum-Means Scholarships for Students Belonging to Minority Communities are awarded by the Government of India every year. Minority Category candidates belonging to Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, Buddhists and-Parsis pursuing technical or professional courses at under graduate/post graduate level in an institution recognized by an appropriate authority, are eligible to apply for merit-cum-means based scholarships.

These scholarships are available for studies in India only for technical and professional undergraduate & postgraduate courses in engineering and technology, management, pharmacy, architecture, hotel management, arts, design, medical, paramedical, veterinary, CA, ICWA, CS and law. 30% of scholarships are earmarked for girl students. This year, with a new change, the Government has announced to provide 60,000 Merit cum Means scholarships all over the country.

Important dates for fresh scholarships

Last date to apply online for fresh scholarships: September, 2016
Last date for students to send signed printed version of online applications to their State departments through their institute: 10 October, 2016
Last date for institutes to review the online applications: November, 2016
Last date for State department to review the online applications: November 2016
Merit list to be generated by State department: November-December 2, 2016

How to Apply

You can apply online for these scholarships at www.momascholarship.gov.in.

Eligibility Criteria

You are eligible to apply for the minorities scholarship if you have got admission in a recognized college/institution to pursue technical/professional courses, on the basis of a competitive exam.

Students, who have got admission in a recognized college to pursue technical/professional courses, without facing any competitive examination, will also be eligible for scholarship. However, such students should have not less than 50% marks at higher secondary/graduation level. Selection of these students will be done strictly by merit.

A scholarship holder under this scheme will not available of any other scholarship/stipend for pursuing the course.

The total annual family income of the beneficiary/parents or guardians of the beneficiary should not be more than Rs 2.50 lakh per annum.

Scholarship Amount

Maintenance allowance (for 10 months only): rate for student residing in hostel - Rs 10,000 per annum (Rs 1000 p.m.); rate for day scholar-Rs 5,000 per annum (Rs 500 p.m.)

Course fee: rate for student residing in hostel - Rs 20,000 per annum or actual whichever is less; rate for day scholar-Rs 20,000 per annum or actual whichever is less.

Full course fee will be reimbursed for eligible institutions

The eligible students should apply to the concerned department with the respective state or union territories where they are pursuing a course.
