Scheme of National Overseas Scholarship

Eligibility Criteria -

1) Age - 35 years, as on first day of the month of the advertisement

2) Academic -

• Post Doctoral
  • 1st class or 60% marks or equivalent grade in relevant Masters Degree (2nd class with 50% for STs)
  • PhD and 5 Years’ Research/ teaching/ professional experience in the concerned field
• PhD
  • 1st class or 60% marks or equivalent grade in relevant Masters’ Degree (2nd class with 50% for STs)
  • 2 years teaching/research/professional experience/MPhil degree in the concerned field
• Masters degree
  • 1st Class or 60% marks or equivalent grade in relevant Bachelors degree (2nd class with 50% marks for STs)
  • 2 years work experience in the concerned field

Scholarship Details
1) Number of Scholarships - 30 per year (SC 17; ST 9; Denotified, Nomadic and Semi-Nomadic Tribes 1; Scheduled Caste Converts to other religion - 2; Landless Agricultural Labourers and Traditional Artisans - 1)

2) Duration - Postdoctoral Research 1.5 years
PhD -4 years
Master Degree -3 years

3) Value - Maintenance allowance
US $ 770 pa
Maintenance allowance for United Kingdom Pound Sterling 5000 pa

4) Contingency Grant - US$ 500 pa For candidates in United Kingdom Pound Sterling 325 pa

5) Others - Actual charges will be paid, wherever applicable

• Actual visa fees in Indian rupees
• Equipment Allowances: Rs.1100
• Incidental journey expenses: Up to US$ 15 or its equivalent in Indian rupees

The awardees are permitted to supplement their prescribed allowances by undertaking Research/Teaching Assistantship up to US$ 2400 pa and for awardees in United Kingdom, Pound Sterling 1560 pa

Applications on plain paper in the prescribed format are also invited for the award of nine passage grants in a year to Scheduled Castes (4 grants), Scheduled Tribes (4 grants) and Denotified, Nomadic and Semi Nomadic Tribes (One grant) which are open throughout the year
