PG - Arts Humanities and Social Science Scholarships

The Department of Culture, Government of India awards fellowships to Outstanding Artists in the fields of Performing, Literary and Visual Arts for the year. The awards sanctioned under the scheme shall be disbursed by the central Government directly.

The Fellowships are awarded for undertaking research oriented projects. While both the Academic research and performance related research are encouraged, the applicant should provide evidence of his/ her capabilities in undertaking the project.

The Fellowships are not intended for providing training, conducting workshops, seminars or documenting memoirs/ or writing autobiographies / fiction etc.

1. The scholarships are awarded to Indian nationals only.


2. This scheme shall be known as the Scheme for the award of fellowships to outstanding artists in the fields of performing, literary and plastic arts.


3. Applicant for senior Fellowship should not be the recipient of pension from this Department under the Scheme for grant of financial assistance to artists in indigent circumstances.


4. Candidates who have been awarded Fellowship shall not be eligible for a second fellowship until 5 years have lapsed from the date of completion of their previous fellowship.

5. Under the Senior and Junior Fellowships, the awardees will submit a four-monthly project report in cases where such reports are not received timely; the Department may withhold further releases to the defaulters.


6. The selected candidates will have to undertake academic or application oriented research work on projects for which they have been awarded Fellowships. They will complete their Projects within two years and submit the same to this Department. No extension of time permissible.
