The Government of Kerala offers scholarships to eligible candidates pursuing their studies in Sanskrit in the Sanskrit Colleges of the state at Trivandrum, Trippunithutra Pattambi and Pavaratty. The scholarships are awarded in order to promote Sanskrit education in the state.
Eligibility
Educational Qualification: The candidates must have passed the following examinations with Sanskrit as one of their subjects
1) S.S.L.C
2) Pre- Degree
3) First Degree Examination B.S. /B.Sc
Note: In the case of Pre- Degree students the condition that they should have passed their S.S.L.C. with Sanskrit as one of their subjects will not be insisted on. But they will have to pursue Sanskrit studies in the Pre-Degree class.
Salient Points
- A candidate who is already in enjoyment of any other scholarship will not be eligible for this scholarship.
- The students for the grant of scholarships will be selected on merit-cum-means basis and they will be awarded the scholarships in addition to any fee concession granted to the students of the Sanskrit College in general. The Scholarships will be granted for 10 months in the year.
- Schedule Caste, Scheduled Tribe or Kudumbi students or other backward communities or X’ian convert students who are awarded financial assistance from the Harijan Welfare Department or from any other source can avail this scholarship in addition to the above financial assistance.
- The boys/girls whose parents income is above 10,000/- per annum will not be eligible for the scholarship unless he/she is one among first ten in the case of Pre-Degree (including Vidwan) or first five in the case of B.A. Degree or first two in the M.A. Degree examination. The income certificate should be signed by the party in the presence of a I class Magistrate, who should also sign it and affix seal.
- Payment of scholarships will be effected monthly by the principals as per the rules of award from the award list of scholarship holders sanctioned by the Director of Collegiate Education.
Scholarship Details
No. of scholarships: 175
Rate: Rs. 100 (Forty five only) per mensem will be granted to the students for the Pre-Degree, Vidwan, three-year degree and post graduate (M.A.) courses. The number of scholarships for each course will be as follows: -
- Pre-Degree - 85
- Vidwan - 10
- B.A. Degree - 55
- M.A. Degree - 25
Duration and renewal of Scholarship: The scholarship will be awarded in the first year class of each course and renewal for subsequent years as per the succeeding clauses.
The renewal of the award of the scholarships will be subject to satisfactory progress and the fulfillment of the following conditions: -
Selection
- The selection of candidates and the award of scholarships will be made by the Director of Collegiate Education in the order of merit among applications received through the Principals of Sanskrit Colleges. The Principals of theColleges will receive the application and forwarded them to the Director of Collegiate Education within one month after the re-opening of the colleges, with their specific remarks and after verifying the facts stated in the applications.
- The Director of Collegiate Education who will be awarding authority shall have power to reject any application for scholarships received from the Principals without assigning any reasons therefore.
