Living Expenses in Dubai

Dubai is very expensive but there are many retail outlets which offer value for money and offer high quality goods or services.

Food and Drinks Costs in Dubai

An individual needs to spend around 500 euro on food and other grocery items every month. Costs of food items are high in downtown areas. Water is generally expensive every where in the country.

Dubai relies chiefly on imported food and drinks because of which they are expensive. Seafood is very popular among the locals and is expensive. Herbs and spices are grown in nearby provinces or traded from Egypt. Locally grown fruits and vegetables are affordable.

Alcohol

It is illegal to have alcohol in your home if you do not have a license. Muslims cannot get alcohol licenses, no matter where they are from. It is illegal to transport alcohol across Sharjah (the only route) without a license.

Transportation Costs in Dubai

Bus fare in Dubai is AED 2 per ride. Taxi fares start at AED 3.

Cost of Clothing in Dubai

  • Dubai exports clothing and textiles like wool and cotton. Buying in malls and department stores typically amounts to around 200 euro per individual every month.
  • As Dubai invests a lot on foreign clothes and accessories to boost its tourism, prices are expensive.
  • Clothing and accessories do not come cheap in Dubai.

Accommodation type and fees vary as follows:
  • AED 4,725/- per term (shared) to AED 7,000/- per term (single)

Private Rental in Dubai

Many furnished and unfurnished apartments are available throughout the Emirates. When you rent a unit in a private building you will have to sign a rental agreement or lease that specifies your rights and responsibilities and those of the property owner and his agent.

Private accommodation is best for students who are not ready for restrictive stay within the college residencies. Though the rents are high, there is a wide range of accommodation available in Dubai. A modest one bedroom accommodation could be available anything between AED 70,000 - 85,000 while a good quality accommodation could cost somewhere between AED 100,000 - 120,000. The amount includes internet facilities, furnishings and satellite Television service.

The Youth Hostel (YHA) Dubai is located  on Al Nahda Road between Al Mulla Plaza and the Al Bustan Centre on the same side of the road near the Al Ali club.

Cost is Dhs 45 or 65 per night including breakfast for YHA members.

Housing Costs in Dubai

A single bedroom apartment will have a rent of around 800 euro every month. Bigger villas cost around 2,500 euro every month. If the place is furnished, tenants will have to add another 25% to the total.

All of these include utilities, home maintenance services and laundry.
Gas consumption rates are typically low due to the abundance of petroleum.
