
Get Connected - Reaching out to the Masses ( NNE`s Online Media Partner ) Right since their inception in 1999, the Get Connected seminars have been recognised as a platform for showcasing some of the latest developments in the educational and industrial sectors of United Kingdom. They also aim at creating new academic and commercial partnerships between Indian and British institutions. Based on the overreaching themes of promoting alliances in information technology, the first three seminars had focused on IT, IT engineering and telecommunications (eduction training and research). Liberalisation, the advent of technology and increase in connectivity have all opened the doors for distance learning providers to meet India's growing need for education and training. Inspite of the huge demand, opportunities are currently limited both for those who cannot access formal education and those seeking qualifications to give them the edge in a highly competitive job market. Partnership opportunities exist in large numbers as major corporate look to diversify into the education and training sector. Through seminars like this the basic aim is to provide opportunities for UK and Indian distance education providers to network, debate key issues and form partnerships. The encompassed themes included employers' outlook on distance learning, e-learning concepts and practices -the UK and India Experience, Quality assurance, accredition and equivalence of the distance learning provision etc. Thefourth and recently concluded edition of Get Connected, which was organised at the
British Councils in New Delhi and Chennai had brought together some of the most reputed names of the British and Indian industry and academia. There were about fifteen speakers from the UK and nearly a hundred and fifty members from different fields in India including distance learning, satellite television companies, dot.com companies and higher education institutions of eminence like the IGNOU, NIIT, UGC and so forth. The seminar provided a forum to all the participants for highlighting the strengths of academia and commercial partnerships in distance/ online learning technology and services, besides training and research. |
