Singapore's universities are known to equip students for today’s competitive Globalized world where only competitive graduates are able to succeed. The National University of Singapore (NUS) and the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) have kicked off a number of pioneering programmes, including the broadening of undergraduate education and post-graduate education, the introduction of a core curriculum, collaborations with top foreign universities, along with the establishment of inter-disciplinary centers. The Singapore Management University (SMU) also offers a broad-based business curriculum modeled on the similar lines of the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Being autonomous, these universities can script their own course of actions hence are fully able to achieve new heights of excellence in education, research and service. These universities do receive substantial government funding.
