Educational: There are graduate level, postgraduate level, diploma and certification courses available in this vibrant industry. Eligibility for certification courses is 10+2. While the eligibility for admission to Travel and Tourism courses at the undergraduate level is normally kept as 10+2 pass, at post-graduate level, eligibility is graduation in any field in addition to a pass in the entrance test.

This is followed by group discussion and interview. For this industry, it’s advantageous to have Proficiency in at least one foreign language. Likewise A diploma in public relations or advertising is also handy.

Travel Agencies: These agencies facilitate travel and other services for vacations or business purposes such as information about the destinations, hotel ratings, the cheapest and the fastest mode of transport, visas, foreign exchange etc.

Tourism Department: 
This department facilitates reservation and, sales and marketing and tour planning. They have dedicated travel guides and information assistants to assist tourists. Information assistants who are selected through a competitive exam which is held by the Staff Selection Commission provide information concerning destinations and plan tour.

There are guides too which are divided into three categories namely regional, state and local. For becoming a guide, one must have knowledge about history, art, architecture and language of the various destinations.

Hotels: Hotels are meant to provide food and accommodation services. This hospitality industry requires professional individuals for jobs related to front office, operations, house keeping, food and beverages, accounting, management and public relations. Here a course in hotel management is always handy for aspirants wishing to enter into this field.

Transport: it’s divided into the following basic categories:

Road Transport: Coaches and tourist cars engaged in tourism industry also provide scope for self employment. Drivers with good conversation skills and knowledge of different languages can fetch quite handsomely.

Airlines: This hot sector of the travel and tourism industry needs ground staff and the airlines staff who must be equipped with a degree in hotel management or travel and tourism. There are numerous career roles as traffic assistants, reservation and counter staff, air hostess & flight pursuers, sales and marketing staff.

Tour Operators: As the name suggests, they are responsible for organizing tours and managing travel and stay of their clients. They carry out tours to well-known tourist attractions and some of them also facilitate the tourists indulge in adventure sports like river rafting and rock climbing.

Holiday Consultants: This is a somewhat new career option in the travel and tourism industry. They not only supply all the information but also trade in the holiday packages. Banks: As financial institutions act as backbone for this industry, they need people to assist tourists and travelers on matters concerning foreign exchange. Travel and Tourism Pay Package

Aspirants can opt for a course in travel and tourism and senior secondary examination [10+2] or after graduation in any discipline. Initially one can expect a starting salary of Rs.3500 to Rs.5000. If some one moves up the ladder and reach the position of a service manager; he can fetch a salary of about Rs.10000 to Rs.15000. Likewise, if you are equipped with an IATTA/UFTTA degree, then it can help you earn somewhere between Rs.12000 to Rs.18000.
