(a) The candidate must be an Indian National.

(b) A candidate, who holds M.B.B.S. degree from a recognized medical college or a foreign medical degree included in the Schedules to the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956 and who has obtained full registration either from the Medical Council of India or any of the State Medical Councils after completing compulsory rotating internship shall be eligible to take this examination.

(c) However, a candidate who, after passing the final qualifying examination (MBBS or the foreign medical degree recognized by MCI), is undergoing 12-month compulsory rotating internship/practical training and is likely to complete the same by 31st March, 2012 can take up this examination, but he/she shall not be eligible for admission unless he/she has completed the compulsory rotating internship and obtained full registration on or before 31st March, 2012 or the candidate produces a certificate from the head of Institution that he /she will be completing internship by 31st March, 2012.

For MDS:

A candidate who holds BDS degree from a Dental College recognised by the Dental Council of India and who has obtained full registration either from the Dental Council of India or any of the State Dental Councils after passing the final BDS examination and has completed one year (12 months) Compulsory Rotating Internship in an approved/ recognised Dental College shall be eligible.

The condition of one year Compulsory Rotating Internship is not applicable to those candidate who had passed their final BDS Examination on or before 1988 and hold a BDS Degree from a Dental College recognised by the Dental Council of India and have obtained full registration from Dental Council of India.

No condonation of Internship of 12 months period shall be accepted.

How To Apply

A candidate can submit application only ON-LINE through website . Read the Prospectus and other details carefully and follow the instructions given therein.

Application Fee : General/OBC Category: Rs.1000/- (SC/ST Category Rs. 800/-) + Transaction charges as applicable. Payment through computer generated Challan Form in any branch of State Bank of India (SBI).

The candidates are required to bring AIIMS copy of Challan Form at the time of examination along with Admit Card and must hand over the AIIMS copy of Challan to the Invigilator, failing which their candidature will not be considered.

Application form/Registration Slip complete in all respects should be submitted online and NOT to be sent to Assistant Controller of Examinations, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Ansari Nagar, New Delhi-110 608.

Admit Card

A downloadable Admit Card will be hosted for all the eligible candidates on website w.e.f. 28th December, 2011. All the candidates must take a printout of the same.

The admit card will not be sent through Postal System. No candidate will be admitted to the examination unless he/she holds a valid Admit Card issued by the AIIMS.

There will be one paper of 3½ hours duration containing 300 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) consisting of Pre-Clinical, Para-Clinical and Clinical subjects. The questions will be single response objective type.


The syllabus for the competitive entrance examination for admission to the MDS courses shall be that of BDS standard and shall cover all the subjects taught during the BDS course. There will be only one paper
of 3 hours duration (10.00 A.M. to 01.00 P.M.) containing 200 MCQs.
