Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) - Introduction

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), an autonomous body, came into existence on 26th January 1950 when the constituent assembly accorded Federal Public Service Commission a constitutional status under Article 315 of the constitution, and renamed it as Union Public Service Commission.

The Commission’s conducts competitive examinations on all India basis for recruiting to the various posts in the fields of civil services, engineering, medical and forest service. The Commission comprises of one chairman and ten members, who are governed by the Union Public Service Commission (Members) Regulations, 1969.

The Secretariat headed by a Secretary, two Additional Secretaries, a number of Joint Secretaries, Deputy Secretaries and other staff, services the commission.
