Banking jobs are one of the most sought after in India and one of the most prized occupations in the country. Scores of applicants appear for the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection Common Written Exam (CWE) each year in hopes of clearing the round and proceeding to the personal interview phase and securing a stable well-paying job for themselves. Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants must be a citizen of India/ Nepal/ Bhutan/ Tibetan refugee/ person of Indian origin migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam intending to permanently settle in India. The Indian government should have issued a favorable eligibility certificate for you.
- Applicants must be at least 20 years old and not more than 28 years old, as on 1 August, 2016. There would be 3-10 years of age relaxation for SC/ ST candidates, applicants with disabilities, ex-servicemen, J&K residents (1980-89) and victims of 1984 riots.
- You must be a graduate in any discipline from a recognized university.
- Additionally the applicant must know how to speak, read and write the official language of the state/union territory that you wish to be placed in.
Application Procedure
- Application Fees/ Intimation Charges [Payable from 22 Aug - 12 Sep, 2016 (Online payment) both dates inclusive] is as follows:
- Rs. 100 for SC/ ST/ PWD/ EXSM candidates
- Rs. 600 for all others
Pre-Exam Training
Pre-Examination Training will be arranged by the Nodal Banks/ Participating Organisations to a limited number of candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste/ Scheduled Tribes/ Minority Communities/ Ex-Servicemen/ Persons With Disabilities at certain centres viz. Agartala, Agra, Ahmedabad, Allahabad, Amritsar, Aurangabad, Balasore, Bareilly, Behrampur (Ganjam), Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneshwar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Coimbatore, Dehradun, Dhanbad, Gorakhpur, Gulbarga, Guwahati, Hubli, Hyderabad, Indore, Jabalpur, Jaipur, Jammu, Jodhpur, Kanpur, Karnal, Kavaratti, Kochi, Kolkata, Lucknow, Ludhiana, Madurai, Mangalore, Mumbai, Muzaffarpur, Mysore, Nagpur, New Delhi, Panaji (Goa), Patiala, Patna, Port Blair, Puducherry, Pune, Raipur, Rajkot, Ranchi, Rohtak, Sambalpur, Shimla, Shillong, Siliguri, Thiruchirapalli, Thiruvananthapuram, Tirupati, Vadodara, Varanasi, Vijaywada and Vishakhapatnam.
Exam Pattern
The IBPS clerk recruitment will be done in two stages:
- preliminary (1 hour, 100 marks, online) exam
- main (2 hours, 200 marks, online) exam - only candidates who qualify the prelims can appear for the mains
Preliminary exam's pattern:
- English language (30 questions)
- Numerical ability (35 questions)
- Reasoning ability (35 questions)
Main exam's pattern:
- Reasoning (40 questions)
- English Language (40 questions)
- Quantitative Aptitude (40 questions)
- General Awareness (focusing specially on the banking industry) (40 questions)
- Computer Knowledge (40 questions)
Each questions is worth one mark and a wrong answer will result in a deduction of one-fourth i.e. 0.25 marks (negative marking.)
The CWE will be followed by an interview phase after which selected candidates will be given provisional allotments on a merit-cum-preference basis. Calculation of the merit will be based on the CWE scores and Interview scores of individual candidates on an 80:20 ratio.
