Shri.Yajaman Bellur A.Thammaiah, Member, People’s Representative Assembly of the erstwhile state of Mysore, a person who enjoyed close contacts with the Maharaja and a leading contractor of yester years had a cherished desire of starting a hostel for the students of Uppara community and poor and backward students of other communities as well. This noble desire became a reality in the year 1942. Shri.Thammaiah was an ardent devotee of Sri.Sri. Swami Ramadas of Anandashrama of Kerala. Eventually this hostel came to be known as “Shri.Swami Ramadas Melusakkare Uppara Vidyarthi Nilaya”.Shri.Thammaiah had the concept of “Vidyadhana” uppermost in his mind and therefore nominated his son-in-law Shri.Y.S.Lingaiah as President of the Hostel in 1965 for smooth functioning of the Hostel. Shri.Thammaiah reached his heavenly abode in 1973.Shri. Y.S.Lingaiah was a leading advocate of Mysore.
