Mumbai University Distance Education - MU IDOL

University of Mumbai established the Directorate of Correspondence Courses in the year 1971-72. In 1993, the Directorate of Distance Education was upgraded as ‘Institute of Distance Education’ and thereof it acquired a status as a ‘University Institution’.

Institute of Distance Education (IDE) of Mumbai University was later renamed as Institute of Distance and Open learning (IDOL) At first correspondence courses were started at B.A./B. Com. level but subsequently, post-graduate courses like M.A./M.Com./M.Sc. (Maths)/D.F.M. & D.O.R.M. were introduced. 
 
Admissions for all the courses of IDOL start in about second week of July. Admission is valid for five years and if the student appeared for the respective exam then it is valid for life time. Personal Contact Program Center starts in the month of November. The University’s distance learning institute has an independent one Library and two Reading Room facilities for the IDE students, with home lending facility. Printed study materials are available in 240 subjects in English. Also, Audio-Visual Centre located at Vidyanagari provides Curriculum based Audio-Video cassettes.

Courses Offered:

The university offers Bachelors in Arts, Commerce, Science and Masters in Arts, Commerce, Science and Computer Applications. They provide PG Diploma in Finance and Operations & Research  Management.
