IIT JAM eligibility criteria 2023

Candidates who wish to apply for IIT – JAM 2023 should fulfill the following IIT JAM eligibility criteria for admissions in the IITs and IISc, Bangalore.

 
  • All nationals, Indian and Foreign can apply for IIT – JAM 2023.
  • IIT – JAM 2023 has no age bar.
  • If a candidate is applying to a specific program then he/she should qualify in the Test Paper and fulfill Minimum Educational Qualifications (MEQs) and Eligibility Requirements (ERs) of that program.
  • Candidates currently in the final year who have already appeared or are due to appear for the final examination are eligible for IIT – JAM 2023.
  • General & OBC candidates should have at least 55% aggregate marks, without rounding off, (taking into account all subjects, including languages and subsidiaries, for all years) and SC/ST and PD Category candidates must score at least 50% aggregate marks, without rounding off, (taking into account all subjects, including languages and subsidiaries, all years combined) in their qualifying degree.
  • If a candidate has letter grades/CGPA rather than percentage of marks, the equivalence in percentage of marks will be decided by the Admitting Institute(s).
  • Candidates should submit proof of having passed the qualifying degree with required eligibility, as specified by the admitting institute by 30 September 2023.

Reservation of Seats

A certain number of seats are reserved for candidates belonging to various reserved categories, such as Scheduled Caste, Schedule Tribes, Other Backward Classes and Physically Disabled. These seats are offered according to Government rules and regulations.

IIT JAM Eligibility Criteria : Educational qualifications

  • The minimum educational qualification for admission into IITs and IISc, Bangalore for various Masters programmes offered is given below:

    M.Sc. Applied Statistics and Informatics (IITB)/ M.Sc.-Ph.D. Dual Degree in Operations Research (IITB)Bachelor’s degree with Mathematics or Statistics as a subject for a minimum of two years or four semesters.
    M.Sc. Statistics (IITK)Bachelor’s degree with Statistics for a minimum of two years/four semesters.
    M.Sc. Biotechnology (IITB, IITR)/M.Sc.-Ph.D. Dual Degree in Biotechnology (IITB)Bachelor’s degree in any branch of Science/Agriculture/Pharmacy/Veterinary/Engineering/ Medicine (MBBS). For IITB’s M.Sc. Biotechnology and M.Sc.-Ph.D. Dual Degree in Biotechnology, candidates must have passed Mathematics at the (10+2) level.

    M.Sc.-Ph.D. Dual Degree in Environmental Science & Engineering (IITB)Bachelor’s degree with one of the subjects Biology, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Mathematics or Physics for two years or four Semesters, and any one of the other four subjects for at least one year or two semesters. Candidates should have Mathematics at the (10+2) level.
    Integrated Ph.D. in Biological Sciences (IISc Bangalore)Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Mathematics. Candidates must have passed Biology at the (10+2) Higher Secondary level.
    Integrated Ph.D. in Chemical Sciences (IISc Bangalore)Bachelor of Science or equivalent with Chemistry as a subject. Candidates should have passed Mathematics at the +2 or PUC level.
    Integrated Ph.D. in Mathematical Sciences (IISc Bangalore)Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science with mathematics for three years or six semesters.
    Integrated Ph.D. in Physical Sciences (IISc Bangalore)Bachelor of Science or equivalent with Physics as a main subject.

IIT JAM Eligibility criteria 2023: Age Limit

There is no Age limit for applying for IIT JAM 2023. Candidates of any age can appear for IIT JAM examination.

IIT Guwahati has said regarding the IIT JAM eligibility criteria 2023, “At the time of admission, all admitted candidates will have to submit a Physical Fitness certificate from a registered medical practitioner in the prescribed form. The admitted candidates may also have to undergo a Physical Fitness test by a medical board constituted by the Admitting Institute. Admission is liable to be cancelled if a candidate is found physically unfit to pursue their chosen course of study.”
