The IIT Madras offers hostel facilities to both men and women. The hostels are well equipped with all the facilities needed for both men and women students. IIT Madras hostels are fully equipped with all the basic needs and amenities.

Campus Life

The campus of Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM) acquires nearly 250 hectares of land full of flora and fauna. The campus has three distinct zones- Academic, Hostel and Residential.

As far as infrastructure is concerned the institute offers incomparable amenities to its students, academicians and fellow members. The institute in pursuit of offering pollution free environment to members uses bicycles and battery powered buses for commuting within the campus. It also offers facilities for sports, health care, shopping, post office and bank etc within the campus.

The extra curricular activities of the students rock the campus. A brief detail of such activities are mentioned here.

Students Activities Center popularly known as SAC is the hub of all indoor sports activities. The inter-hostel events like Choreo Nite and Freshies’ Nite are also conducted in the SAC.

The SAC is also the venue for IIT Madras Annual Convocation.

When it comes to ‘Out Door’ sports, The Inter – IIT sports meet, cricket tournament and Gerhard Fischer & Kokila Rajaiah Tournament (GFKR) are testimony to versatility of the institute.The recreational facilities like Music Club, Astronomy Club, Hiking Club etc make students learn a lot beyond academics.

Chennai, the capital of Tamilnadu is located at Coromandel Coast of the Bay of Bengal and recognised as 34th largest metropolitan in the world. Known for its culture and heritage its a commercial and industrial hub and recognised as the automobile capital of India.

Chennai attracts large number of tourists at its Marina Beach that is 12 Km long and the longest beach in the world. Wildlife life resources like National Deer Park and Madras Snake Park adds extra flavor in the beautifulness of Chennai.

The ATP Lawn Tennis Tournament-Chennai Open held every year in the city adds extra weight to the city the city is hottest during May / June when the average temperature is around 45 degree Celsius. During January the average temperature is around 24 degree Celsius. The lowest temperature recorded was 15.8 degree Celsius and highest 47.1 degree Celsius. The monsoon winds from north east brings good (sometimes heavy) rain fall to the city in winters.
