HRD Ministry: 2000 online courses to be offered through SWAYAM within one year
The Human Resource Development Minister, Prakash Javadekar, said on Sunday said that the government aims to provide affordable education across India through an online education portal, SWAYAM. He said that 2,000 online courses will be offered on the online portal within one year.
At the Indian Institute of Technology (Delhi) where he inaugurated a Teachers Workshop, he said, “Currently, 380 courses are offered through this platform and this will be enhanced to 2,000 courses in one year.”
He also added that around 60,000 students have already completed these courses and are benefiting from this affordable online education platform that was launched last year. He said this platform can be termed as ‘ATL – Anytime Learning’ similar to ATMs.
Online education on various subjects ranging from Class 9-12, undergraduate to postgraduate courses are offered on this platform.
The Teachers Workshop was arranged as a part of this initiative. Lectures will be conducted by the Chief Economic Adviser, Arvind Subramanian, based on economic surveys of the last three years, on different aspects of the Indian economy.
History of Indian economic development, current progress, various challenges and the economic strategy going forward are a part of the course in this workshop.
This course will help in the understanding of the Indian economy in-depth.
