NIRF India Rankings 2018 Released, IITC, IIMA, and IISc Top Colleges
The Union HRD Minister, Prakash Javadekar released the NIRF India Rankings 2018 on 3rd April 2018. The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) rankings are released for various categories on the basis of their performance.
IISC, Bangalore bagged the rank of the best overall institute and the top university. IIM, Ahmedabad was declared the top management institute and IIT Chennai the top engineering college. Miranda House, Delhi was declared the top general degree college, National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research Mohali was the top pharmacy college, AIIMS, New Delhi the top medical college, IIT Kharagpur the top architecture college, and National Law School Indian University Bangalore was announced as the top law college.
In the 3rd edition of the NIRF rankings, over 4500 institutes participated in 9 categories which included universities, engineering institutions, management colleges, pharmacy institutes, law colleges, medical colleges, architecture institutes, and general degree colleges.
The rankings gain importance especially due to their association with the "Institutions of Eminence" scheme. The Institutions of Eminence scheme has been underlined as a process where in the government, in a bid to promote quality education, would provide support for setting up and upgradation of 10 public and 10 private Institutions of Eminence. The idea is to help these institutes reach the top 100 of world institutions ranking. The list of these institutes is yet to be released.
