Savitribai Phule Pune University to Have 58 More Colleges in the Next Five Years
Popular as the ‘Oxford of the East’, the city of Pune is replete of prestigious institutions that offer some of the best education standards in India. The city’s engineering colleges are a hit among the students across the country and the University also offers varied range of courses in arts, sciences and management.
To add to the plethora of excellent learning institutes, 58 new colleges are set to open in the next five years. The Savitri Bai Phule Pune University recently submitted its five-year plan draft to the Maharashtra Uchha Shikshan Parishad (the state level governing body for higher education) which includes addition of 58 colleges along with improved NIRF ranking. Currently ranked at number 9, the university aims to achieve a rank 5 in the next five years.
These 58 colleges are planned to open in the Pune, Ahmednagar and Nashik districts of Maharashtra.

The draft plan was a cumulated effort of the management and academic councils of the university. According to Nitin Karmalkar, the Vice-chancellor of the University mentioned the draft was developed by consulting the faculty, students, department and institution heads, industry experts and social activists.
These colleges will pave the way for more courses designed to improve employment as well as to promote research. Generation of jobs, innovation and skill- development along with promotion of entrepreneurship are the key elements that were pioneer for this decision.
The city of Pune recently topped the list of ‘the most livable cities of India’. Addition to the number of educational institutes which will in-turn also improve the employment and economy, Pune will get even better on the liveability index!
