World University Rankings 2018 Announced; IISc the highest ranked Indian University
The World University Rankings 2018 were announced recently on Tuesday, 5 September.
Indian Universities did not fare well in the rankings with Indian Institute of Science (IISc) being the top ranked Indian University. The ranking however is in the 251-300 bracket from previous year's 201-250 bracket.
Indian Institutes of Technology Delhi and Kanpur dropped out of the top 500 world universities in these rankings. IIT Bombay however stood its ground by remaining in the 251-400 bracket.
Other South Asian universities on the other hand from countries like China, Hong Kong and Singapore are rising up the ladder.
Times Higher Education (THE) Global Rankings Editorial Director, Phil Baty said, "It is disappointing that India has declined in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings amid increasing global competition."
He also added, "Government policy strictly limits the number of students from abroad who can study in India and prevents international scholars from being hired into long-term faculty positions."
7 universities in the top 10 world universities belong in the United States of America.
