NIT Durgapur - Introduction

BIT DurgapurBIT DurgapurThe Regional Engineering College (REC) Durgapur, in the state of West Bengal was established under an act of parliament for providing training in engineering sciences.The institute was jointly established by the state government of West Bengal and the Government of India.Further the institute was renamed as National Institute of Technology and given the status of Deemed University.

NIT Durgapur offers programmes at different levels, viz; Under Graduate, Post Graduate and Research and awards its own degrees and diplomas. Besides offering under graduate and post graduate courses the institute is also involved in active research with several National and International agencies.
There are seven hostels for boys and two hostels for girls to accommodate the admitted students.

Other facilities within the campus include a canteen for the students and the staff which is located near the main academic building and a second canteen at the rear exit of the main academic building of the Institute. NIT Durgapur has a well equipped central library, Computing, Internet & Intranet, Central Instruments Facilities, laboratory and health care centers.
