Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE) is an initiative by the Department of Science of Technology (DST), Government of India. Through “INSPIRE,” the government hopes to strengthen the science and technological base of the nation. The INSPIRE Fellowship 2016 focuses on students who want to pursue a doctoral degree in basic and applied sciences including engineering, medicine, agriculture, veterinary, pharmacy etc. after either masters’ degree in science (M.Sc /B.Sc) or bachelor/ masters’ degree in engineering/ applied sciences (M.E./M.Tech.)

About the Fellowship

  • The INSPIRE Fellowship provides a research grant for a maximum period of 5 years to students involved in full-time research that may lead to a Ph.D. degree.
  • This fellowship is equal to a NET/GATE fellowship (Junior Research Fellowship/Senior Research Fellowship).
  • 1000 INSPIRE fellowships are offered to eligible candidates every year

INSPIRE Fellowship 2016 Eligibility Criteria

  • Indian citizenship.
  • Interested candidates should have scored at least 65% marks in their M.Sc or integrated M.S/M.Sc degree. You should have achieved the required qualification only in your last year or current year of the course.
  • You’re eligible to apply if you’re a 1st rank holder in your post-graduate level basic or applied sciences (engineering, medicine, agriculture, veterinary, pharmacy) examination.
  • First rank holders at the Graduate Level examination in engineering sciences and other professional courses conducted by a University/Institution in India are also eligible to apply to directly pursue a doctoral degree.

However, first rank holders from any college (including any autonomous college exam) are not eligible to apply.

Selection process

INSPIRE fellowship scholars are selected purely on the basis of their:

  • academic merit
  • choice of supervisor
  • host institution
  • research proposal

All interested and eligible candidates must apply online at www.online-inspire.gov.in anytime between 6 September and 5 October, 2016.
