Physical Research Laboratory Junior Research Fellowship

Physical Research Laboratory (PRL) offers Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) for talented individuals who have passion for research in the broad areas of Astronomy, Astrophysics, Solar Physics, Planetary Sciences, Geosciences, Space and Atmospheric Sciences, Experimental Laser and Atomic Physics and Theoretical Physics.

Eligibility Criteria

Minimum educational qualification to apply for Physical Research Laboratory Junior Research Fellowship is M.Sc in one of the following subjects; Physics, Space Sciences, Atmospheric Sciences, Chemistry (Physical, Nuclear/Analytical), Geology, Geophysics and Ocean Sciences.
 
A minimum of 60% marks at the Bachelor’s and Master’s levels are required for all candidates. Candidate must have Physics and Mathematics as the subjects at the under graduate level.
 
Age limit: Not more than 25 years as on 31st December, 2011 (born on or after 31st December, 1986)

Selection Procedure

Physical Research Laboratory conducts written test and Interview for those who qualify in the written test. On the basis of performance in written examination and interview Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) is awarded.
 
Written test may be waived for candidates who satisfy eligibility criteria and have qualified in any of the following (i) JEST (ii) GATE (in Physics/Geophysics) (iii) UGC-CSIR NET-JRF in June of December in subject code-1, 2 and 5

Stipend and Facilities

Rs.16,000/- per month in the first year, Rs.18,000/- per month after two years, subject to a satisfactory academic review, will be given. A book grant of Rs. 7,500/- per year will be given for five years to purchase books that are relevant to the research work being carried out by the Research Fellow.
 
May be provided a one time, full travel support for participating in an International Meeting/Conference (subject to a maximum of Rs.1.0 lakh only).
 
All expenses connected with the registration for Ph.D. degree, such as, tuition fees and examination fees will be borne by PRL.

Application Process

Students may also be supported for attending conferences abroad, once during their tenure. In addition, all expenses connected with registration for Ph.D, tuition fees, etc will be borne by PRL
