Junior Hindi Translators Exam Pattern & Syllabus 2013
Following is the exam pattern for the recruitment exam for the posts of Junior Hindi Translators, Hindi Pradhyapak and Senior/Junior Translators conducted by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) for the year 2013.
The exam will have two parts.
a) Part-I: written examination (400 marks)
Candidates must answer two papers in the written exam which will be conducted on 2 June, 2013.
i) Paper I will have 200 questions each carrying one mark, to be answered in 2 hours' time from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. 40 minutes are allotted extra to VH candidates. Subjects on which the questions will be asked are General Hindi (100 marks) and General English (100 marks). 0.25 marks will be deducted for every wrong answer.
ii) Paper-II will have two conventional essay type translation questions, one in Hindi and another in English, comprising of 200 marks, answered in two hours from 2p.m. to 4p.m. Time has been relaxed by 40 minutes for VH candidates.
b) Part-II: Personal Interview (PI) (100 marks)
Candidates who qualify the written exam will be asked to appear for a personal interview. Candidates have to visit the commissions' regional/sub-regional office for the Interview session (details of offices available on the official website)
You can prepare for the written test according to the following guidelines:
Paper I: The questions will test your understanding of the languages and literature, correct use of words,phrases and idioms and ability to write the languages correctly, precisely and effectively. The difficulty level of the questions will be of degree level.
Paper II: There will be two passages to translate - one from Hindi to English and one passage for translation from English to Hindi. This will assess your translation skills.
You will also be required to write two essays - one each in Hindi and English, that will test your ability to write as well as understand the two languages thoroughly.
