The University Grants Commission (UGC) on Tuesday confirmed that CBSE will conduct the UGC National Eligibility Test (NET) July 2017 session after days of confusion regarding the suspension of NET by CBSE. This also ends the confusion for 5 lakh students who have registered for the CBSE UGC NET exam this year. The decision came after student groups protested outside UGC office regarding the talks about suspension of UGC NET 2017 exam. CBSE has said that it will soon publish the official notification for the CBSE UGC NET July 2017 session on its official website.

For the first time in 33 years, the UGC NET was facing uncertainty as the CBSE had emailed the HRD ministry expressing its inability to conduct the exam this year. The CBSE cited capacity crunch as a major reason for its inability to organize the entrance exam. However, the CBSE, HRD Ministry and UGC held a meeting and sorted out the issue with the UGC convincing the CBSE to conduct the NET 2017 for both the session – July and December. V.S. Chauhan, officiating chairman of UGC said, “NET will happen in time – at max a week here and there. We have sorted out the issue with CBSE over the NET exam.”
